So here is my page of the current books that I am reading… (“Why?” you may ask …Because you might care if you enjoy books as much as I do, and also, you might have some suggestions for books that should be added to my “book roll”). I will try to keep text books out of here unless, that is, the text book is really really fabulously informative, life changing, AND entertaining. And yes, I read 3 or 4 books simultaneously. I can’t help it. I’ll try to comment on the books (when I have time or something worthwhile to say), in the comment section. (go figure, huh?)
“God in Search of Man” Abraham Joshua Heschel
“The Good News about Injustice” Gary A. Haugen
“Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”Jonathan Safran Foer

“God in Search of Man”- You should read this book. It’s probably one of the most thought provoking books I’ve ever read. Heschel is a philosophical genius; his questions and explanations, will make your head spin…(but in a good way). You get the sense that he never says something just to say it, he chooses every word carefully like a piece of a puzzle, so that when the thought is complete, there is so much art and beauty in what is conveyed. There’s a lot of truth in his words, but I definitely disagree with Heschel in some very core ways. So though I can’t agree with everything Heschel proposes, I respect him for his words; his honest questions, his candor and convictions, and the challenges he brings his readers with his deconstruction of the rigid paradigms we often live by.

yes, it’s great! however, did i mention, “small bits”? meaning, i’ve been reading this book for almost two months and i just hit the 2/3 mark. you read a few chapters a day, max! haha.
also, did you ever find Foer? I need to write about how after reading it one day, i threw myself on the couch and cried, while my roommate, laughed ….sympathetically. ’sympathetically”, because she did the exact same thing.

here is a link to the red tent. it is a book that uses biblical characters but gives a slightly different screw to the story. sometimes the story line (which is intended to be fiction based off of the bible) seems pushed but other times it like a light just went on and you say, “wow, i never thought about it like that.” it focuses on one family, jacobs. this is a good read. : http://www.curledup.com/redtent.htm
